Wedding Planning

The wedding is getting close! It's so close now, that I don't even have to refer to Tim's comments to know how many more days I have to go! I am most excited!

Wedding planning has gone reasonably smooth – with a few bumps in the road along the way. Mom and I have been working on all the many details for weeks now. It is amazing to me how much time it takes to plan a wedding! Seemingly little things, like finding blue, white and silver ribbon for the bride's/bridesmaids' bouquets, can take days. We visited every Wal-mart and craft/hobby store in the Fort Worth area - and then had to visit them all again! If I had been smart, I would have just ordered the ribbon off of the internet. Live and learn :) At this point, the wedding preparations are slowing down. There are lots of little things that we still have to take care of, but the majority of the major tasks are completed. For the next couple of weeks, I hope to focus more on preparing to move into our home in Carthage, Missouri. Life is certainly full of many responbilities!

Finishing Up

My father is currently travelling southeast to New Orleans, LA. He is almost finished repairing my grandmother's home located in that city. In August her home was flooded with three feet of water due to Hurricane Katrina. For the past five months, Grams has been living with us in Fort Worth. Now it seems she will be able to move back into her condo. We are glad to have this project coming to a close. I think Dad did quite well repairing her house in five months at a distance of over 500 miles - especially considering all of the unusual difficulties that were encounted working in New Orleans (shortage of labor, lack of electricity and infrastructure, etc.) Of course, Dad is a general contractor, so it makes sense that he would be good at remodeling houses :) Looking forward to your return Dad!

A Pretty Little Girl

Mark just sent me this picture of my little niece-to-be, Olivia, laying on a blanket I crocheted for her. Isn't she cute? I was priviledged to meet the little lady when I was in Missouri a couple weekends ago. Aren't babies so wonderful?

Preparation

Preparing for marriage involves much discipline. Things that I never used to worry about are suddenly top priority. Take exercise, for instance. Now I'm not a particularly unfit individual, but neither would you catch me winning a marathon anytime soon. It's not that I don't believed in the importance of staying in shape, but I always find it so difficult to make the time to actually exercise. Now, though, I am realizing how extremely important it is going to be for me to discipline myself in this manner. How can I give birth to many children, should God choose to so bless us, if I'm not healthy? Another area closely linked to exercise is diet. Mark has informed me that eating candy bars for lunch is not a good thing. Oh. And ice cream? No, it should not be used to replace dinner. Of course I don't eat junk food all of the time, but I am now going to be much more conscientious of what enters my mouth! Since Sunday, I've been doing quite well. I've exercised, eaten fruit and salads, taken my vitamins and eliminated most sugar intake. I hope I can stay diligent with this in the future :)

Let Me Explain

After I posted my last post, it occured to me that many people may have no idea why I would be so excited about rain. The reason: We are currently 18" short of the 12 month average for rainfall here in the DFW metroplex. Wildfires are a daily occurance. Above average temperatures, wind and the drought have all contributed to the increased fire danger. Any bit of rain is welcome, though we need much more to soak the ground and reduce the risk of fires.
