The Thanksgiving Events Chronicle
I keep trying to come up with something profound to write. I do not think that's going to happen anytime soon. Instead, I will just update everyone with our family's recent activities.
We stayed in Texas for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful celebration at home with my grandmother. Thursday we cooked and ate a delicious feast prepared by the ladies of the house. Our traditional Thanksgiving meal consists of turkey, ambrosia, potatoes (of some sort), rolls, Greek salad, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, punch, and stuffing. We also experiment with two or three new dishes every year. This year's new entrees were Zucchini soup (which I did not try) and a cauliflower dish (which I did try and liked). After taking a bite of the cauliflower dish, Allyson very exuberantly exclaimed, "I LOVE cauliflower." It was rather humorous seeing her so excited about cauliflower. One of my favorite parts about Thanksgiving is the preparation of the food. I almost like that more than eating it. It so much fun to spend hours in the kitchen with Mom and the girls cooking and making a huge mess. I have to wonder how people can truly enjoy Thanksgiving if they buy all of their food premade or go out to a restaurant for the Thanksgiving meal. But maybe that's just me.
Friday we planned to get up at 5:00am and take advantage of the sale at the Bass Pro Shop, but when 5:00 rolled around, we decided that getting out of bed for the Bass Pro Shop was not a thrilling idea. So we kept sleeping. Eventually everyone did get up and Dad took us kiddos to eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel. The rest of Friday was uneventful. I called Mark some time in the afternoon and he inspired me to actually do something with the rest of the day. (I had spent most of my post-breakfast time sitting on the sofa trying to wake up. I think I was still experiencing post cranial narcolepsy from Thursday's big meal.) My project of choice was finishing an apron that I started sewing many months previous. Friday evening, Grams took Amanda, Abigail and Mom to see Pride and Prejudice. Dad and Josh went out for some father/son time and I stayed home and played dollhouse with Allyson.
Saturday six members of the family (everyone except Josh) travelled 2 1/2 hours to Elm Mott, TX, for the Homestead Heritage Craft and Children's Fair. Since Mom loves that event so much, we've made it a yearly tradition to attend. It was fun to once again admire all the handiwork displayed at the craft fair. I was inspired to resume my quilting endeavors.
Sunday afternoon I was able to see my friend Alisha who was in town for Thanksgiving. We had a great visit. Meanwhile at home, Mom was trying to finish some Christmas decorating. Sunday evening, Mom and Dad went out on their weekly date. I looked at wedding planning books and read a few chapters from a very inspirational book. (I would mention the name of the book, but it's my sister's Christmas present.)
I vastly enjoyed my four day vacation. It was not as productive as I would have liked (I never did get my bedroom cleaned or my homework finished or my car washed or my announcements addressed.... ), but I think the extra sleep I was able to obtain was much needed. I am so grateful for Thanksgiving!
